Meet “Tyler”
Tyler, a 43-year-old father of two, had built a stable life working as a construction foreman. Known for his leadership and dedication, he took pride in providing for his family. But when an unexpected layoff coincided with the loss of his father, Tyler’s world began to unravel.
The weight of grief and financial uncertainty pushed Tyler into a deep depression. Over time, feelings of worthlessness consumed him, leading to self-harm thoughts that he kept hidden from everyone around him. Desperate to escape the emotional pain, Tyler developed unhealthy coping mechanisms, one of which was turning to alcohol. These struggles created a rift in his relationships, leaving him feeling isolated and ashamed.
By the time Tyler was 41, his mental health had deteriorated to the point where he had lost his job, his connection with his children, and his sense of purpose. With therapy and treatment, Tyler began the hard work of rebuilding his mental health and finding stability.
While he made progress in his recovery, finding employment proved to be another challenge. Many workplaces were unwilling to accommodate someone rebuilding their life after significant mental health challenges. That’s when Tyler discovered The Green Door Café.
